Sindh Reverts to Five-Day Workweek for All Educational Institutions

KARACHI: Schools and colleges across Sindh will revert to a five-day working week, operating from Monday to Friday, following the provincial government’s decision to roll back its earlier directive mandating six-day classes.

The modification was formally announced through separate notifications issued on Wednesday by the Sindh School Education and Literacy Department and the College Education Department.

“With the approval of the competent authority, it is hereby notified that all public and private educational institutions under the administrative control of the School Education & Literacy Department [and College Education Department], Government of Sindh, shall observe a five-day working week, from Monday to Friday, with immediate effect and until further orders,” the notifications stated.

The latest directive supersedes the short-lived policy introduced the previous week, which had instructed all public and private institutions under administrative control to conduct classes six days a week (Monday to Saturday) following the conclusion of summer vacations. That six-day schedule had initially been established alongside other austerity and fuel conservation measures.

According to the education departments, fresh working hours specifying single-shift and double-shift institution timings will be released shortly.
