The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has identified Pakistan among the countries experiencing the world’s most severe measles outbreaks, highlighting concerns over declining vaccination coverage and increasing transmission of the highly contagious disease.
Health experts say interruptions in routine immunization, vaccine hesitancy, population displacement, and limited healthcare access have contributed to the growing number of measles cases across the country. Children under the age of five remain the most vulnerable to severe complications, including pneumonia, encephalitis, malnutrition, and death.
Public health authorities are urging parents to ensure that children receive both recommended doses of the measles vaccine. Officials say increasing vaccination coverage, strengthening disease surveillance, and expanding awareness campaigns are essential to controlling the outbreak and preventing future epidemics.
