The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has unveiled a comprehensive strategy to discourage the misuse of artificial intelligence (AI) in universities while promoting its ethical and responsible use for academic learning and research.
According to HEC officials, universities will receive new guidelines explaining how AI tools such as ChatGPT and other generative AI platforms should be used in assignments, research papers, and examinations. The commission also plans to strengthen plagiarism detection systems, redesign assessment methods to focus on analytical thinking and practical skills, and train faculty members to identify AI-generated academic content.
HEC emphasized that artificial intelligence should assist students in learning rather than replace original thinking and independent research. The commission believes responsible AI policies will help maintain academic integrity while preparing students to use emerging technologies effectively in their future careers.
