The Sindh government has announced strict new safety regulations for school vans across the province to ensure the safety of students travelling to and from educational institutions. The decision aims to prevent road accidents and address dangerous practices that have raised concerns among parents and school administrations.
Under the newly announced regulations, the use of CNG and LPG cylinders in school vans will be prohibited. Transport operators will also be required to ensure that vehicles do not carry more students than their authorised seating capacity. Every school van must have a valid vehicle fitness certificate to confirm that it is safe for transporting children.
The new rules also strictly prohibit students from travelling on vehicle footboards, hanging outside moving vans or being transported in unsafe conditions. School administrations and private transport operators will be responsible for ensuring that all vehicles comply with the prescribed safety standards.
Authorities have warned that legal action may be taken against schools and transport operators found violating the regulations. The measures are intended to strengthen student protection, improve school transportation standards and reduce the risks associated with unsafe vehicles. Parents have also been urged to remain vigilant about the condition and safety arrangements of vehicles used to transport their children.
