ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif has criticised opposition leaders Raja Nasir Abbas and Mahmood Khan Achakzai, accusing them of failing to play an effective role in securing the release of PTI founder Imran Khan.
Speaking on Geo News’ programme Jirga, Saif claimed that Raja Nasir Abbas was in contact with influential figures within the establishment, but alleged that these contacts were not aimed at securing Imran Khan’s release.
Commenting on Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Saif alleged that he had secured a seat he previously lost with the assistance of Nawaz Sharif. However, he claimed that Achakzai was unwilling to sit down with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for negotiations concerning Imran Khan’s release.
The PTI leader further alleged that Achakzai had travelled to Quetta during a crucial phase of the negotiations, despite being appointed opposition leader by Imran Khan to facilitate communication with the government.
Saif also claimed that Achakzai had contacted Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz seeking the release of his son.
Taking aim at Raja Nasir Abbas, Saif criticised what he described as his limited political outlook, saying it remained focused on administrative officials such as deputy commissioners, tehsildars and patwaris.
He further claimed that former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur had facilitated Abbas’s election as a senator.
The remarks were made during Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif’s appearance on Geo News’ programme Jirga.
