The BSCS department claimed the title of the third AIT Inter-Departmental Cricket Championship 2025-26 after delivering an outstanding all-round performance throughout the tournament organized by Aligarh Institute of Technology. The championship was held at Imran Khan Cricket Stadium and brought together students from 13 different academic departments in a highly competitive cricket event.

Departments participating in the tournament included Software Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Artificial Intelligence, Architecture, CIT Morning, CIT Evening, and BSCS. The event drew significant enthusiasm from students, faculty members, and sports supporters across the institute.

The final match ceremony was attended by Convener Syed Muhammad Mohsin Kazim as the chief guest, while Principal Shahid Jameel presided over the event. Senior faculty members, students, and sports officials were also present to encourage the players and celebrate the spirit of sportsmanship.

The tournament featured several exciting knockout matches. In the first quarter-final, the Software department comfortably defeated CIT Morning to secure a place in the semi-finals. Civil Engineering overcame Electrical Engineering in the second quarter-final, while Artificial Intelligence defeated Mechatronics in the third. BSCS advanced to the semi-finals after defeating CIT Evening in the fourth quarter-final.

In the semi-finals, Software Engineering defeated Civil Engineering to book a place in the final. The second semi-final saw a thrilling clash between Artificial Intelligence and BSCS, where BSCS emerged victorious after a dominant performance to qualify for the championship match.

The grand final between Software Engineering and BSCS proved to be the highlight of the tournament. Batting first, the Software department managed to score 82 runs. In response, BSCS produced an aggressive batting display and chased down the target in just six overs, sealing the championship in emphatic fashion.

BSCS captain Haris played a sensational innings that became the defining moment of the final. He smashed 44 runs off only 10 deliveries, hitting six massive sixes and two boundaries, leaving spectators and opponents stunned with his explosive batting. On the bowling side, Behzad delivered an equally impressive performance by taking three important wickets and restricting the opposition to a manageable total.

Alongside the men’s championship, the institute’s Sports Department also organized a women’s cricket match between AIT Green and AIT White. Batting first, AIT Green scored 47 runs, but AIT White successfully chased the target to win the match. Players including Kainat and Bisma from Biomedical Engineering, along with Hafsa Zohaib from Architecture, delivered notable performances for AIT White. Shaina from the second-year team stood out for AIT Green with her strong contribution.

The event also featured a friendly exhibition match between AIT Establishment and AIT Faculty. AIT Faculty batted first and posted 74 runs on the scoreboard. In reply, the Establishment side managed 49 runs in the allotted five overs, resulting in a 25-run victory for the Faculty team.

The friendly match witnessed an impressive opening partnership between Zafar Ahmed and Waheed Ur Rehman, who guided their side to a strong total. Zafar Ahmed scored a brilliant 34-run innings and was named Player of the Match for his performance. From the Establishment side, captain Umair Hussain also impressed with a fighting knock of 34 runs.

Addressing the closing ceremony, Convener Syed Muhammad Mohsin Kazim praised the players and emphasized the importance of extracurricular and sporting activities in student development. He stated that the institute regularly organizes sports events every month to provide students with healthy recreational opportunities and to encourage teamwork, discipline, and leadership qualities.

He also appreciated the efforts of Sports Officer Talat Mehmood and Assistant Sports Officer Azmat Pasha for successfully organizing the tournament and ensuring smooth management of the event.

Principal Shahid Jameel, while speaking at the ceremony, highlighted the institute’s commitment to promoting sports alongside academics. He said that educational institutions must focus not only on academic excellence but also on physical activities that help students develop confidence, discipline, and a competitive spirit.

The championship concluded with prize distribution and applause for the winning teams, as BSCS celebrated a memorable victory in one of the institute’s biggest sporting events of the year.
