IG Sindh Prisons Chairs Virtual Meeting to Outline Reforms and Security Measures

Karachi – June 24, 2025: Inspector General of Sindh Prisons and Correctional Services, Mr. Fida Hussain Mastooi, chaired a virtual meeting today with all Deputy Inspectors General and jail superintendents across the province. The meeting commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by policy directives from the IG focusing on prisoner welfare, jail reforms, and enhanced security protocols.

During the session, the IG commended the performance of officers in select prisons, but also issued firm instructions in several key areas.

Cleanliness and Order All facilities, including administrative offices, roads, barracks, hospitals, kitchens, residential colonies, and the outer premises of prisons, must be maintained in a clean and orderly condition.

Security Enhancements Effective installation of barriers and road blockers was stressed, along with the strengthening of entry protocols to fortify prison security.

Food and Mess Management Inmates are to be provided with warm, hygienic meals exclusively in designated mess halls. The practice of serving food inside barracks, often in substandard conditions, must be discontinued.

Drug Rehabilitation the IG emphasized the implementation of structured rehabilitation programs for inmates affected by drug addiction. These programs are to be launched on a priority basis, under a phased and strategic approach.

Accountability and Transparency to combat corruption within the prison system, the IG called for rigorous internal oversight and staff evaluations based on principles of self-accountability.

The IG concluded by reiterating the department’s commitment to prison reform and directed officers to ensure strict compliance with the new guidelines.
