Alleged administrative negligence at Karachi’s Kulsum Bai Valika Hospital has turned into a lifelong ordeal for hundreds of families. More than 200 innocent children have reportedly contracted HIV after being injected with contaminated and previously used syringes.

‎The mothers of the affected children are struggling in search of justice.

‎It is alleged that the repeated use of contaminated syringes at Kulsum Bai Valika Hospital caused dozens of children to contract the deadly disease. Families affected by what they describe as criminal negligence have approached the Sindh High Court seeking justice.

‎According to petitioner’s counsel Tariq Mansoor Advocate, more than 200 children were infected with HIV as a result of the alleged reuse of contaminated syringes at Kulsum Bai Valika Hospital.

‎The hospital, which operates under SESSI, an institution of the Sindh government, treats thousands of patients daily. Providing safe and quality healthcare services is both a legal and ethical responsibility of the administration.

‎According to the petitioner, despite serious reports regarding the spread of HIV, no effective inquiry or action has been taken against those responsible.

‎During the hearing, the Sindh High Court directed the Sindh Health Secretary and the Inspector General of Sindh Police to submit a comprehensive report before the next hearing and sought complete details of the matter.

‎The number of people infected with HIV/AIDS through the use of contaminated syringes in Sindh has reportedly reached into the thousands.
