The Punjab government has announced an innovative “Libraries on Wheels” project for government schools in Lahore, aiming to promote reading habits and improve access to educational resources among students. The initiative is designed to bring books and digital learning tools directly to schools, particularly benefiting students who have limited access to library facilities.
According to official details, the project is estimated to cost Rs198 million and will introduce a modern mobile library system across government schools in the provincial capital. Under the plan, 85 electric vehicles will be purchased and converted into mobile libraries. These vehicles will travel to schools carrying educational materials and digital resources for students.
Each mobile library will be equipped with 20 modern tablets, enabling students to access digital learning content, educational applications, and online study materials. Education officials believe that combining traditional books with technology will create a more engaging learning environment and help students develop stronger reading and research skills.
The initiative reflects the Punjab government’s broader efforts to modernize the education sector and encourage a culture of reading among young learners. Authorities expect the project to enhance educational opportunities, support classroom learning, and provide students with greater exposure to both printed and digital knowledge resources.
