LAHORE: Punjab has prepared a new activity- and concept-based curriculum for students from Classes 1 to 5 as part of a major reform of primary education.
Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat said the new curriculum is designed to move students away from traditional rote learning and encourage greater understanding of concepts through classroom activities and practical learning.
Under the revised system, students will be encouraged to understand lessons, participate in activities and apply concepts rather than relying mainly on memorisation. The approach is aimed at making primary education more engaging and focused on practical learning.
New textbooks based on the revised curriculum are planned for the 2027 academic session, subject to approval from the Punjab Chief Minister. The Punjab Education Curriculum, Training and Assessment Authority has already begun work on preparing the new books.
The reform is expected to introduce a significant change in the way young students learn in government schools, with greater emphasis on conceptual understanding, activities and practical classroom experiences.
Officials hope the new curriculum will strengthen foundational learning and help students develop skills beyond traditional memorisation-based education.
