World Maritime Day was observed in Karachi, bringing together officials, maritime experts and other stakeholders to discuss the role of the maritime sector in Pakistan’s economy. The conference focused on the importance of maritime trade, ports, shipping and the country’s marine resources, while highlighting the need for greater attention to the development of this sector.
Participants emphasized that Pakistan has significant maritime potential that can contribute to economic activity, trade and employment. However, making better use of this potential requires investment in modern technology, improved infrastructure and professional training for people working across the maritime industry.
Safety was also a major focus of the discussions. Vice Admiral Abdul Muneeb stressed that safety drills on ships and strict adherence to established safety rules are essential. Regular training and preparedness can help maritime personnel respond effectively to emergencies and reduce risks during operations at sea.
Experts further noted that the sustainable development of Pakistan’s maritime sector depends on effective policies as well as their proper implementation. They called for stronger coordination between government departments, maritime institutions, industry stakeholders and other relevant organizations.
