K-Electric has urged residents to take precautions as a fresh heatwave tightens its grip on Karachi, with weather authorities warning that temperatures could reach around 40°C on Sunday and climb above 41°C on Monday. Forecasts say hot, very hot, and dry conditions are expected to persist across much of Sindh, adding pressure on both public health and the city’s power system.
In its public advisory, K-Electric asked customers to avoid unnecessary outdoor movement and strenuous activity between 11 am and 4 pm, describing that period as the day’s peak heat window. The utility said it was prepared for higher electricity demand and remained committed to maintaining supply as temperatures rise.
The warning comes at a sensitive moment for Karachi, where extreme heat quickly turns into a broader civic issue. High temperatures increase health risks, especially for outdoor workers, children and older residents, while also driving up electricity demand as households and businesses lean harder on cooling. The latest heatwave alert reflects those twin pressures at once.
Officials have also been urging the public to take basic protective steps, including staying hydrated, limiting exposure during the hottest hours and avoiding unnecessary exertion. With the heat expected to intensify into the start of the week, the message from both utility and weather authorities is essentially the same: treat this spell seriously and do not wait for symptoms of heat exhaustion before taking precautions.
