Lahore, August 12: Two men were killed after police opened fire in Lahore’s Ghaziabad area on Monday, officials confirmed. The deceased have been identified as residents of Dera Bugti district, including a local schoolteacher named Bangal Bugti.
According to initial reports, the incident occurred during a police operation in the locality, but the exact circumstances that prompted the shooting remain unclear. Witnesses in the area reported hearing multiple gunshots, after which police cordoned off the scene.
Authorities have stated that an internal inquiry has been launched to determine whether the use of lethal force was justified. “The matter is under investigation, and details will be shared once facts are established,” a police spokesperson said.
Local community members have expressed outrage and called for a transparent investigation, particularly in light of claims that the victims were unarmed. Human rights advocates have also urged the Punjab government to ensure accountability in the case.
The bodies of the deceased have been shifted to a nearby hospital for postmortem examination. Meanwhile, security has been tightened in the area to prevent any law-and-order issues following the incident.
The case has sparked debate over police conduct and the use of force in civilian areas.
