The Punjab government has allocated billions of rupees in the 2026-27 budget for the improvement of the health sector, provision of modern medical facilities, and new development projects. According to budget documents, Rs5.35 billion has been allocated for new medical colleges and teaching hospitals.
Under a Rs2 billion project for the rehabilitation of hostels for medical college students, Rs385 million has been allocated for the next fiscal year. Meanwhile, Rs306.8 million will be provided for the Rs3 billion project aimed at revamping the outpatient department (OPD) of Mayo Hospital Lahore.
A total of Rs70 million has been allocated for the installation of new lifts in the emergency and gynecology blocks of Services Hospital, while Rs105 million has been earmarked for the implementation of the Health Management Information System (HMIS) at Jinnah Institute of Cardiology.
The budget also includes the Kulsoom Nawaz Cancer Hospital project in Dera Ghazi Khan. The total estimated cost of the hospital is Rs15.25 billion, while Rs800 million has been allocated for the upcoming fiscal year.
A project to establish cath labs in district hospitals across the province to improve cardiac care facilities has also been included in the budget, with Rs1.71 billion allocated for the purpose. In addition, Rs1 billion has been set aside for the provision of modern medical equipment to district and tehsil headquarters hospitals.
The government says that these projects will help improve healthcare facilities across the province, ensure the availability of modern medical technology, and provide better health services to patients.
