Islamabad: The World Health Organization (WHO) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Pakistan’s efforts to eliminate polio, as the country intensifies its final push to interrupt the transmission of the poliovirus and achieve eradication.

During high-level meetings with Pakistani health authorities, WHO officials praised the country’s continued commitment to strengthening immunization campaigns, disease surveillance, and rapid outbreak response. The organization emphasized that Pakistan has made significant progress in reducing polio cases but noted that sustained efforts are still needed to stop the virus completely.

WHO urged parents and caregivers to ensure that every eligible child receives the polio vaccine during each nationwide vaccination campaign, stressing that repeated doses are safe and essential for building strong immunity. Health officials also highlighted the importance of reaching children in high-risk and underserved communities to prevent any further spread of the virus.

The organization pledged continued technical, operational, and logistical support to Pakistan’s polio eradication programme, including assistance with surveillance, laboratory services, frontline health workers, and community engagement. WHO stated that close collaboration between the government, international partners, and local communities remains critical to making Pakistan polio-free.

Health authorities expressed confidence that with sustained political commitment, public cooperation, and continued international support, Pakistan can achieve its goal of ending wild poliovirus transmission and securing a healthier future for every child.
